Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.

“Still unsure,” he added. “But I will say this, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD shared security footage earlier this week of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims according to reports.

The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning near the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, police said. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder injury that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was projected as an important component of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a practice session on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he attends every game. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of Texas University in 2019. He signed with Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
