Jurgen Klopp states coming back to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains an option. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-year spell which brought a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait for three decades, currently occupies roles overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won England's top flight in the previous campaign, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would embrace the notion that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he told Steven Bartlett: “I stated I won't manage another team within the country. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, that means the choice could be mine down the line, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I can just see how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations must arise to tempt his return to the dugout, he confessed he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for press conferences repeatedly each week or constant media duties a week.
“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant with the players enjoying conversation, that’s nice. With many victories meaning regularly great spirits at the club. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the tweaks that won the league last campaign. They've been defeated a string of losses in all competitions after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the suggestion it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong balanced team. No need for concern regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, along with the consequences at the club. The forward was killed in a car crash alongside his brother recently.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? It’s not about the player himself, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the dressing room missing him. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A devastating blow for all the boys also. No one within the club would cite it as an excuse but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Coping with it individually is not easy. Overwhelming.”
