LA Battles Unprecedented Heat Only One Week After Severe Winter Weather.
After enduring torrential rains that led to inundation across areas in the city, LA is now seeing unusually hot weather for the end of February.
All-Time High Readings
On Friday midday, the mercury reached 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in the city center, as reported by meteorologists. This easily surpasses the previous daily record for this date, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was established in the previous year.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were labeled on forecast charts for the region.
Public Health Alerts
Authorities issued a warning that Friday's weather posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for those at risk. Their advice suggested:
- Drinking plenty of fluids.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
- Never leaving children or pets unattended in a hot car.
A Dramatic Shift
This sudden spike in temperature comes on the heels of a powerful winter storm that battered the state earlier in the week. That system brought heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to mountainous regions, leading to mudslide risks for countless residents.

Weekend Outlook
Looking ahead a cooldown is expected. The heat were forecast to drop to around 16 degrees Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) in downtown LA by overnight.
Additional areas that reached 90°F included Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Additionally, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were forecast to reach the upper eighties.
In the coming days, downtown Los Angeles can see readings in the eighties, with mid-70s temperatures likely for the week ahead.
