Severe Downpours Exacerbate Circumstances for Evacuated Gazans, Officials Alert
Persistent storms over the past week have compounded the precarious situation of the vast number of evacuated Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, according to relief organizations.
"Awful" Weather Creates Serious Risks
A official characterized the weather overnight as "horrendous", with precipitation so severe that as much as 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the ground.
"Last night was really difficult for the residents. The downpours were so intense... And the winds were so strong," said the official.
Authorities voice grave anxiety that minors sheltering in makeshift shelters in damp attire will contract hypothermia and various illnesses.
Fatalities and Significant Loss
Health authorities have confirmed that one baby has died from the cold and at least 11 other people have been killed in building collapses caused by the storms.
Other reports suggest a greater number of casualties. Officials reported that multiple homes had collapsed completely and dozens had sustained partial collapse.

Relief Efforts Considered Insufficient
Groups have increased deliveries of shelter, warm covers and garments following the truce commenced, but they emphasize there is continues to be not enough aid entering.
"We are operating tirelessly to provide that assistance and to allocate it, but the size of the needs is so immense that we are faced with many thousands of people and minors who are really enduring hardship nightly," cautioned one representative.
Future Issues and Agreement Provisions
The second phase of the agreement includes plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the removal of personnel, and other terms.
Relief bodies have highlighted the need for "increased and sustained humanitarian assistance to address urgent and future requirements."
The conflict was initiated by an assault in October 2023. Later actions have caused a substantial number of casualties in the area, according to official data.
