Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his future following another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented recurring failings from his team in their European loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a spell like this with results like these.”
Jones finished, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to its rightful place, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
